• Spring High Point Market is over and I’m looking forward to receiving all the great new products that I purchased while I was there. They never seem to come quick enough for me. Over the course of the summer, we will be continually receiving new merchandise, so stop by often to see the new things.

Fabric and Leather combination are still popular for the comfortable Southwestern and the Tucson Traditional look. The color trend is moving away from the dark browns into a more neutral palate.

Mineral is a new leather color that I saw at this market was at Lee Industries. It will be paired beautifully with a taupe woven fabric sofa and wait until you see the pillows with a fabulous glazed sea foam flange.

It’s often very difficult to find just the right accent table for those small space. Here is a collection of outstanding and unique pieces that will be perfect for your home.

American Leather’s  Menlo Park designed by Rick Lee, is becoming a classic. Here it is shown in a current color palette with  sassy throw pillows. A bold new look for a classic design.

American Leather which is famous for the best sleeper on the market is now entering the recliner market with their new Comfort Recliner. It will come in three sizes, seven arm styles, three base styles, 70 leathers and multiple fabrics. You are not going to believe how fashionable this recliner is. It’s perfect in every way, except that we will not get the first ones until fall. I’ll keep you posted.

• The fundraiser “A Symphony in Style” a Silent auction followed by a Luncheon and Fashion Show.
• The theme for the Fashion Show is “Locally Grown”; showcasing locally owned boutiques. It will also highlight “Locally Owned” businesses by featuring them in the Silent Auction.

• Mark your calendars for glamor and fun all for a great cause.  On Saturday, February 12, 2011 come as you are or dress as your favorite Hollywood star! Enjoy a lovely evening of dining, dancing, divas and live and silent auctions in Salpointe’s festively transformed gymnasium.  The “Hollywood Nights” Gala Chairs, Karen Sarikas and Jody Slania and their fabulous committee and volunteers are planning an event to remember!  $100 per person ($50 tax deductible).

• I’m back from the High Point Furniture Market and there’s so much to tell. I ran into Michael Payne, former host of Designing for the Sexes. I hope you were one of the lucky people that got to see him when he gave a presentation here at Contents Interiors. He is a dynamic, fun and talented designer. He is continuing to design more home furnishings so look for more introductions from him.
• Contemporary continues to have a strong presence with white, charcoal and lilac remaining strong for the color palette. As we baby boomers get a little older, even the contemporary furniture is more comfortable than several years ago.
• The light wood finishes are everywhere. You will be seeing more and more with a washed, or taupe, or grey finish. After years of dark java finish, it is a great fresh new look. The eclectic mix of different styles is very strong as shown in this photo. Feel free, to let your creativity run wide and you mix all the things you love. Our design staff can help you make a cohesive look while mixing styles.

• Stephanie Hayes a third grade English language teacher at Holaway Elementary School, wrote a winning essay on how she gives her students critical safety skills while teaching them English. By utilizing the “Got 2B Safe” learning program, Stephanie’s students learn the four safety rules; Check first, Go with a Friend, It’s My Body, and Tell a Trusted Adult. The program is sponsored by Honeywell Hometown Solutions and their Got 2b Safe Awards Program, in partnership with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Each year, five grand prize winners are chosen based on essays they’ve written, explaining how they teach the “Got 2B Safe” Four Rules of Safety.

• The winning entry describes the collaborations of her students in writing and producing a video script for a news cast. It includes interviews with community members such as police officers. Parents, and school officials. The program was then video cast to the entire school.

• Honeywell awards each Grand Prize winner a $10,000 classroom makeover with a theme of their choice. As she works with children coming from many countries, Stephanie has chosen a Multi Cultural, Around the World theme.

• Interior Designer, Tamara Scott-Anderson, owner of Contents Interiors and an active member of the American Society of Interior Designers was selected to oversee the project. Tamara is thrilled to donate her time to help further the cause of supporting and recognizing teachers.

• Much of the budget was spent to purchase electronic technology and equipment for use in Stephanie’s curriculum. To enable a dazzling makeover and stretch the budget, Tamara as involved local businesses and individuals to donate time and materials. Including Dunn Edwards Paint, Sierra Blinds and retired painter Tom Calvin.

• This prize was one of only five winners of this award throughout the United States.

• Western Home Furnishings Association (WHFA) held it’s annual conference this year at the Disney Grand Californian Hotel in Anaheim CA. There is no better place to stimulate creativity and business success than at the Idea Place, Disneyland Resort. Challenging us to strive for excellence, the conference was more productive, more inspiring, and more memorable than many past conferences.
